JURISTS: VARNISHING THE MSU INTRAMURALS 2023 WITH HUES OF PURPLE

This year’s MSU Intramurals was noteworthy and regal. As the esteemed institution celebrated its 50th anniversary, 11 departments competed to gain the golden victory of being named as the Champion.

The week-long celebration was accented by a myriad of events in sports, arts, and academics. Annually, students from senior high school, colleges, and post-graduate studies gather in MSU grounds for friendly competitions and cordial camaraderie, all wearing their department colors. The MSU Law, with purple, black and white as its color, came with strong and determined contenders.

October 4, 2023 marked the beginning of the Intramurals. With it, Jurists from different year levels, led and encouraged by the CLSA officers marched with purple balloons and banners. Their cheery yells and adamant energy represented the vigorous spirit of the college. When the fireworks lit the sky, the Jurists stayed for the tear-jerking performance of Kristel Kate Bolante, who presented a declamation piece for Miss MSU Talent Night. It was the very performance that gained the college the Best in Talent award on the Coronation Night.

The Jurists also sent its representatives for the Academic Night which was held on October 6. Individual and group quizzers demonstrated their knowledge on respective fields of Mathematics, Language and Literature, Science and Technology, and General Information. The contenders showed their academic prowess and gained the following awards: Jotham Leo Martinez bagged 4th runner up (Mathematics), Krizza Nadine Calmerin earned the 4th runner up place (Language and Literature), Dioscoro Nuñez III got 6th runner up (Science and Technology), and Robin James Mozo secured the 4th runner up (General Information). Meanwhile, Sara Mae Butaslac, Jotham Leo Martinez, Dioscoro Nuñez III and Rhoanne Shyry Oregila proved their collective knowledge and teamwork during the said competition. On the same night, Jurists Jehan Stephanie Egao, Althea Pearl Brynn Sapa and John Bon Bejarin also represented the CoL for the musical events held in the MSU quadrangle. It was a night of brains and talents, and the Jurists took the challenge with chins up and brave hearts.

The athletes also excelled in their chosen sports. Volleyball men braved against College of Education and Senior High School during the eliminations round. Volleyball women also gave their contenders a good fight, not minding the prickly heat of the sun and the game. Badminton enthusiasts showed their skills during the doubles game. Table tennis games were also held and participated by adept participants from the college.

What made noise and instantly became the crowd’s favorite were the CoL’s Esquires Basketball Team. From having their first game against the College of Fisheries to reaching the Semi-Finals against College of Agriculture, the Esquires didn’t fail to cause thunderous applause inside the gymnasium. Cheers of “Law! Law! Law!” were heard in every corner, coupled by the gripping chase of the game. Taking home the 4th place rank, the Esquires remains to be the CoL’s pride.

Ending the 50th Intramurals on October 10, the Jurists were left with mementos preserved in pictures and moments embedded in each memory. The College of Law may have not made it to the top of the list as one of the winners, but the weeklong activities showed the college’s goal of attaining One MSU Law. It was shown by the ceaseless support, the competence and motivations and by the undying spirit of oneness that is evident in every Jurist.
